Why we started
Cricket is one of the planet's fastest-growing sports, beloved by billions. It is widely known as one of the most complex sports to predict, model and trade. It is a team game, played by 2 people against 11. It could technically be finished in the time it takes to bowl a few balls, or five days. There are different formats, from The Hundred to T20s, 50 overs and tests. They are played by men and women, with slightly different strategies and patterns. There are Powerplays. Death overs. Bowlers who bat. 12th men. Runners. There is a global calendar that never stops. There is rain, cloud, wind and dew. DLS. DRS. DBS (Different Boundary Sizes ;)). There are cracks and different grass lengths. There are new balls, and different types of ball. There are sudden momentum shifts that change everything.
Decimal Data began when two cricket data specialists, Ben Newton and Charlie Bruce, saw the game differently. They believed cricket's complexity meant its data deserved a specialist focus, from people who understood its rhythms, formats, markets and moments in detail: fast enough for live betting, contextual enough for professional analysis, and ambitious enough to help the game become more watchable, more valuable and more investable. So they built Decimal Data.
